Is the Economy Waxing or Waning? Perspective and Outlook

Since the beginning of October the VIX® Volatility Index has doubled and market indices have experienced significant swings as investors weigh corporate performance, interest rates and the coming election.  Phil Mackintosh and his Economic Research team at Nasdaq have been closely following all market factors and how they might impact public companies this and next year.

Jonathan Lansner has been the Orange County Register’s business columnist since 1997 and has been part of the newspaper’s coverage of the local business scene since 1986. He is a native New Yorker who is a past national president of the Society of American Business Editors and Writers and a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School.

Join your NIRI Orange County colleagues as Phil and Jonathan provide us with a closer look at what’s causing the recent market volatility, the anticipated impact of the election, a review of the local Southern California/Orange County business and real estate environment and what we can be expecting for the balance of 2018 and the possible effects on 2019.

Holders of the NIRI IRC® credential can earn 1 professional development unit (PDU) per meeting/webinar. IRC-credentialed speakers may also earn PDUs. More information is available at www.niri.org/certification.
